Salary reference

Public sector pay is published.

Classification grids as published by the employer, group by group and level by level. Nothing here is estimated or averaged from postings: every range below is transcribed from a named agreement, with a link to it and the date we read it.

Available grids

Jurisdictions

Each grid is held separately, because the groups, the levels and the agreements behind them are different in every one.

Reading a classification

EC-05

Almost every federal advertisement carries a code like this one. Because the rates for each group and level are published in a collective agreement, the code tells you the salary range before you apply — whatever the posting chooses to quote.

EC

Occupational group

The family of work, and the collective agreement that sets its rates. EC is economics and social science; IT is information technology; NU is nursing.

05

Level

The level within that group. It carries far more information about the pay and the seniority than the job title does.

Step

Steps within the level

Each level usually has several steps, moved through annually rather than negotiated. A range below is step one to the top step, and most external appointments start at step one. The guides explain the rest.
