About

How this index works

CanadaPublicSectorJobs is an independent directory of public sector and public healthcare vacancies in Canada. It exists because those jobs are real, well paid and genuinely open — and because finding them means knowing which of several hundred separate hiring systems to look in.

What this is

One searchable index of vacancies at Canadian public employers: federal departments and agencies, provincial and territorial ministries, cities and regional municipalities, crown corporations, health authorities and hospitals, school boards, colleges and universities, and public safety services.

Public sector hiring in Canada is deliberately decentralised. The federal government runs its own recruitment platform; every province runs another; each health authority, city and school board typically runs a third. Someone qualified for four of those has no single place to look. That gap is the whole reason this site exists — we do the looking, and then send you to the employer to apply.

Who runs it

CanadaPublicSectorJobs is privately operated and independent. It is not a government service, not a public body, and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or contracted to the Government of Canada, any provincial or territorial government, any health authority, or any employer listed here. Nothing on this site is an official notice, and nothing here changes an employer’s own competition rules or deadlines. The full statement is on the disclaimer page, and it is linked from the strip at the top of every page.

Editorial decisions — which sources to read, what to publish, what to hold back, what to correct — are made by the people who run the site, and there is one address for all of it: sales@uniqevo.co.uk. No employer, recruiter or agency can pay to change how a listing ranks, and no listing is placed, promoted or removed in exchange for money.

Where the listings come from

Postings arrive from two kinds of source: employers’ own career sites and job feeds, and licensed aggregator APIs. Each one is recorded in a source registry with its robots.txt position, a review of its terms of use, its collection interval and its recent run history. The coverage page publishes that registry — what we read, when each source last ran successfully, and what we could not reach.

The terms review happens before a collection strategy is written, not after. Some well-known public sector job boards are recorded in the registry as permanently excluded because their terms forbid automated collection, and they stay excluded. A page being technically reachable does not change what its terms permit.

Where we do collect directly, we respect robots.txt, identify ourselves in the User-Agent, and throttle to one request every two seconds per host. That is described in full on the crawler page.

What happens to a posting before you see it

  1. Normalised. Title, employer, location, employment type, salary, closing date, language requirement and competition number are pulled into the same shape regardless of which system they came from.
  2. Matched to an employer. “AHS”, “Alberta Health Services” and “Alberta Health Svcs” are one employer, and the same job appearing in two feeds is one listing with one canonical page.
  3. Classified. Sector, level of government, province, city and occupation, so the same posting is findable from several directions.
  4. Checked for public sector status. A posting from an employer we have not confirmed as a public employer is held rather than published. A private clinic is not a public employer, and “public sector” is the entire promise of this directory.
  5. Kept current. Every listing carries the date it was last seen at its source. Closed postings come off the index; one that closed recently stays readable behind a banner for thirty days so somebody arriving from a stale link gets an explanation, and after that the page returns a 410 and leaves search results.

What we will not do

  • We never take an application. Every apply button hands you to the employer’s own system. We do not host forms, collect résumés, or sit between you and a hiring manager.
  • We never charge a job seeker. There is no premium tier, no paywall and no account requirement. An account only saves jobs and searches.
  • We never invent a number. If a hub has no listings it says so rather than showing a count we made up. A salary figure is published only with a source and a retrieval date; where a figure is an estimate rather than something an employer stated, it is labelled an estimate everywhere it appears and is deliberately kept out of the structured data search engines read.
  • We never sell your data. There is no advertising network on this site and no third-party analytics script. What we do measure, and how you turn it off, is on the privacy page.

When we get it wrong

We will. Feeds go stale, employers move a posting without telling anyone, and a classification rule that works for nine hundred jobs will put the nine hundredth in the wrong place. If a listing is wrong, closed, duplicated, or should not be here at all, tell us and we will fix it — usually the same working day. Every job page carries a report link, or use the contact form.

Employers who would rather not be indexed at all can say so and we will remove them. We would rather have a smaller index than an unwelcome one.
